Been told off a couple of different people now that Saints have signed Jacob Douglas for next season. Not sure if it is an attempt at tit for tat revenge for Vaughan and Sambou (who by the way you can have after last night!) or if he is going to be a starting winger. Strange one given that we have Feldt for next year and Murphy who is a class act if he can stay fit.
If it is true then it's clear that Bennison, Davies and Ritson are leaving.
Very strange if true, Stu, and Saints have definitely got the better end of that deal. I rate Douglas very highly and is better than Vaughn and Sambou combined off what I've seen so far.
I can only assume it's Douglas seeing his pathway blocked as Marshall and Miski are going nowhere for the next few years at least, Eckersley is next in line if AK stays beyond next year and we've also signed Sambou (although I can't see a scenario where he is in front of Douglas any time soon). We've also signed Wade so, even disregarding his age, it appears we're at least looking to strengthen further in that area.
I'd keep Douglas ahead of Wade and Sambou if I'm being honest.
Yeah it's gone a little quiet on this now but I believe that Douglas won't be at Wigan next season regardless. From what I've seen of him I agree with you that he looks better than Sambou and I would be happy if indeed this rumour is true.
Of course it's hard to judge Sambou under Wellens coaching and it may well be that he comes good under Peet but his defensive display at Warrington (not on his own admittedly) was horrendous. He looks way off first team ready.
I know what you mean regarding Wellens as many other players look poor under him. At the same time some, particularly the younger guys like Robertson and Whitby, don't seem to be struggling in the same way that Sambou has. I get that all players are different and what suits one doesn't necessarily suit another but, as you say, Sambou's defence was awful the other day and that's not a good sign. Douglas seems bigger, faster and stronger to me and just looks a better prospect, albeit playing in a better side at the moment.
What makes you so sure he's leaving Wigan, Stu? Is it from Wigan's side or does Douglas want away?
