With Hull KR, London Broncos and Featherstone Rovers already secure in the Middle Eights competition, all eyes were on Halifax and Toulouse to see who would join them to play against Warrington, Catalans, Leigh and Widnes.

Toulouse welcomed Featherstone to the south of France on Saturday knowing that they needed to win, and then hope that Halifax failed to get a point at home against Hull KR.

London ended the regular part of the season against Batley while the other sides were jostling for position. Swinton visited Bradford, Sheffield were at Dewsbury and there was a Pennine derby as Oldham took on Rochdale.

It was a humdinger of a game in Toulouse as Featherstone tried to end their Super League aspirations. Minga put the home side ahead before Thackeray even things up. A Kheirallah penalty and tries from Curran and Adler put Toulouse 16-6 up before Briggs reduced the arrears to 16-12. A Kheirallah try was cancelled out by Turner for Featherstone but the home side went into the interval at 20-16. Walton put the visitors into the lead for the first time at 24-20 just after the interval but a second for Kheirallah on sixty-five regained the lead for the home side. A Hardman penalty for Rovers levelled the scores at 26-26 with just nine minutes remaining. The local hero turned out to be Minga who scored within the last sixty seconds to snatch the crucial victory by 32-26 and lift his side into fourth, giving Halifax all the work to do to make the top four as they entertained Hull KR.

Halifax went into their Sunday afternoon game with league leaders Hull KR knowing that defeat would deny them the Middle Eights competition. They had an almost perfect first half and led 24-6 at the interval thanks to tries from Johnston, Heaton, Sharp and Sio with the only answer being a Moss try which had levelled the scores on twenty at 6-6. Halifax sat back on their lead in the second half and frustrated the KR attack. The only points in the second half were two penalties from the boot of Tyrer and 'Fax ran out as 28-6 winners to seal their place in the all important top four.

London Broncos cemented their second spot with a confident win over the Batley Bulldogs. First half tries from Kear (2) and Channing pushed them to an 18-0 interval lead. The Broncos kicked on in the second half running in another thirty points. Pewhairangi (2), Kear, Williams (2), Roqica and Davis all grabbed four pointers with the only response a solitary Brown try on sixty-seven. It was a convincing 58-4 win to complete London's pre-Middle Eights campaign.

It was a low scoring first half at Bradford where the Bulls were still looking for their first points of the season with a game against Swinton. Swinton held a 6-0 lead at the interval thanks to a tenth minute Robinson try. Bradford scored first in the second half to level the scores when Sironen went over on forty-five but tries from White and Forsyth took the points for Swinton with a 16-6 win, leaving the Bulls pointless for the regular season.

It was nip and tuck at Dewsbury where Sheffield Eagles were the visitors. Gudzek got the home side off to the perfect start with an early try but two tries from Lo for the Eagles put them level after a Glover penalty. Another penalty edged Dewsbury back ahead but a Yer try for the Eagles gave them a 10-8 lead at the break. Dewsbury knocked down in the second half and won the game through four-pointers from Walshaw, Speakman, and Glover before a late consolation for Marginet for the Eagles gave a final scoreline of 28-18.

It looked like Rochdale were going to run away with their game away at Oldham when Penny, Kay and Ecclestone put them 18-0 ahead after just twenty minutes. Smith and Clay then both got converted tries for Oldham before a late Yates penalty for Rochdale gave the Hornets a 20-12 interval lead. Hewitt grabbed one back for Oldham just after the break for 20-18 but Yates and Kay put the outcome beyond doubt as they edged Rochdale into a 30-18 lead. A late Tyson try again reduced the arrears but Penny grabbed the final try of the game to seal a 34-24 win.
