| With Christmas celebrations and excesses now a distant memory we can now look forward just four short weeks to the start of what promises to be a massive Super League XXI campaign as eleven teams try and knock the Leeds Rhinos off their lofty perch.
All the close-season wheeler-dealing will be put under fans scrutiny as a clean slate renews the hope in the hearts of the rugby league die-hards.
The new season gets underway on Thursday the 4th February when the defending champions experience the dawn of the post-Sinfield, post-Peacock, era when they welcome the Warrington Wolves to Carnegie Headingley for the opener in front of the SKY cameras.
Friday night plays host to three further Round One fixtures with; losing Grand Finalists Wigan Warriors entertaining the Catalans Dragons, St Helens playing host to the Huddersfield Giants, and Salford Red Devils travelling to Hull FC.
The round concluded on Sunday with clashes between Hull KR and Castleford Tigers while Widnes Vikings travel down the M62 to take on the Wakefield Wildcats, the survivors of the Million Pound Game.
Just like last season it will be a year of ‘every second counts’, right from the first whistle of the season opener to the last of the Grand Final next October.
The NRL kick off their season on the 3rd March with Paramatta Eels v. Brisbane Broncos while domestically the Championship gets underway on Sunday 7th February with six Round One games but Championship One fans will have to wait until the 5th March when Toulouse Olympique XIII start their campaign with a home game against Coventry Bears.
